How to effectively deal with problems

All companies experience problems, especially when they 'push the envelope' to implement aggressive Business Plans beyond the real capacities of their businesses. Problems are often symptoms of dysfunctional plans and/or half-cooked strategies.

Sometimes the lack of 'problems' is a sign of a company that is not driven to its maximum potential. It could mean there are lost opportunities.

Problems are issues that inhibit, obstruct or prevent a company from achieving its objectives. They present themselves in many colours and sizes. For example:

  • Conflict between shareholders
  • Lack of symmetry between what the company owners want for themselves and what the business is doing
  • Under capitalisation
  • No access to knowledge and resources
  • Lost market opportunities
  • Technology shifts
  • New or aggressive competitors
  • Disputes with suppliers, clients, the tax office, etc.
  • Stagnation. Company has become insular and in need of fresh ideas and ways to do business
  • Plus many more internal (within the owners' control) and external (outside the owners' control) reasons….

Albert Einstein was right in saying that: "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." But he also said: "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

Business owners have three keys to open the door to solutions:

1. Don't become emotional and stressed. Unfortunately, most private-business owners find it difficult to separate their business problems from themselves,

2. Seek external expertise (business advisors, not only accountants), and

3. Act swiftly. Very few, if any, problems go away by themselves.

We are able to assist our clients in seeking to resolve specific business problems by using our expertise and by accessing a network of specialists who are skilled in trouble shooting.
